Buffalo



Buffalo, any of several species of wild ox, members of the bovid family. The domesticated Indian water buffalo or carabao is used as a draft animal and for milk. It weighs about a ton, is 5 ft (1.5 m) high, and has large curved horns. Other types of Asiatic buffalo are the Philippine tamarau and the small anoa of Celebes. Cape buffaloes are dangerous big-game animals living in herds. The American bison is also incorrectly called a buffalo.
