Yoweri Kaguta Museveni



Museveni, Yoweri Kaguta (1944– ), president of Uganda since 1986. His Front for National Salvation helped overthrow dictator Idi Amin (1979). After a prolonged struggle he overthrew President Milton Obote by force (1985); when his National Resistance Army seized the capital of Kampala, ousting the ruling military council, Museveni was installed as president. Museveni maintains good relations with Europe and the West and has helped stabilize the country, but has been accused of human rights violations.
