Mushroom

Mushroom, popular name given to an umbrella-shaped gill fungi. Edible mushrooms have 5% protein and are mostly water. Poisonous, or inedible, mushrooms are called toadstools. The common field mushroom (Agaricus campestris) is the wild species most frequently eaten; bisporus is the cultivated mushroom. Some mushrooms are parasites of wood, plantation trees, and garden plants.
