Chesapeake Bay retriever

Chesapeake Bay retriever, medium-sized breed of water-loving hunting dogs of the sporting group. The dog stands 21–26 in (53–66 cm) at the shoulder and weighs 55–75 lbs (25–34 kg), and possesses yellowish eyes. Its short, thick, oily coat ranges from dark brown to light tan in color, resists cold, and easily sheds water. The breed was developed in the United States when two English-stock puppies were found shipwrecked off the Maryland coast (1807) and were bred with local retrievers.
