Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant



Bryant, Paul ‘Bear’ (1913–83), U.S. football coach. The all time winningest coach in Division I-A football, Bryant compiled a record of 323 wins, 85 losses, and 17 ties while coaching at Maryland (1945), Kentucky (1946–53), Texas A & M (1954–57), and Alabama (1958–82). Bryant won or shared six national championships at Alabama (1961, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79).
