Brucellosis



Brucellosis, undulant fever, or Malta fever, infectious diseases of vertebrate animals, caused by any of a genus (Brucella) of bacteria. Symptoms are chills, fever, profuse sweating, slow pulse and, finally, enlargement of the spleen. Cattle, sheep, goats, and swine can pass the disease on to humans through contaminated meat, milk, and cheese, or by direct contact.
