Bridgetown

Bridgetown (pop. 7,500), capital and only port of Barbados. It is a crowded and attractive tourist center, with public buildings made of coral. It was founded in 1628, and then named Indian Bridge, from a crude structure over the creek. Its modernized port now handles sugar, molasses, and rum.
