Daniel Boone

Boone, Daniel (1734–1820), American pioneer and hunter. Beginning in 1767 he made a series of trips into what is now Kentucky and in 1775 built a fort there, called Boonesboro. In 1778 he was captured by the Shawnee, who were allied with the British against the American revolutionaries. Boone escaped to warn settlers at Boonesboro of a planned attack, which they successfully resisted. He moved to Missouri in 1799, after his land titles in Kentucky were overturned.
