Wilderness Road



Wilderness Road, early U.S. pioneer route. It ran from Virginia through the Cumberland Gap into the Ohio Valley. Laid out in 1775 by Daniel Boone, it was the main route west until 1840. It became part of U.S. 25 (the Dixie Highway) in 1926, and is now a section of U.S. Route 1.
