Battle Hymn of the Republic



Battle Hymn of the Republic, U.S. patriotic song, unofficial hymn of Union troops in the Civil War. Written in 1861 by Julia Ward Howe and sung to the tune of “John Brown's Body,” it later became a Protestant hymn and a protest marching song.
