Piet Mondrian



Mondrian, Piet (1872–1944), Dutch painter and theorist, a founder of the Stijl movement. At first a symbolist, he was later influenced by cubism and evolved a distinctive abstract style relating primary colors, black, white, and gray in gridlike arrangements.
