Mandolin



Mandolin, instrument of the lute family. It has a pear-shaped body, fretted neck, and 4 or 5 pairs of strings that are plucked with a plectrum. Composers who have used the mandolin in their works include Mozart and Beethoven, but it is best known as a popular Neapolitan instrument.
