Manchester School



Manchester School, group of English businessmen and members of Parliament (1820–60), mostly from Manchester, who advocated worldwide free trade. They were led by John Bright and Richard Cobden, who formed the Anti-Corn-Law League in 1838 and brought about the repeal of the corn laws in 1846.
