Lipid



Lipid, any of a group of organic compounds found in plants, animals, and micro-organisms that are insoluble in water but dissolve in fat solvents such as ether, chloroform, and alcohol. Lipids are classified into fatty-acids, phospholipids, waxes, steroids, terpenes, and other types, according to their products on hydrolysis.
