Thomas Kyd



Kyd, Thomas (1558–94), English dramatist whose The Spanish Tragedy (c.1586) was a prototype of the Elizabethan and Jacobean revenge tragedy. The work is partly modeled on Seneca but is more lurid and more psychologically acute. Kyd may have written a version of the Hamlet story.
