Elia Kazan



Kazan, Elia (1909– ), Turkish-born U.S. film and stage director. He is best known for realistic films on social issues, such as On the Waterfront (1954). Other films include A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) and Viva Zapata! (1952). He also wrote and directed The Arrangement (1967) and The Assassins (1972). At the 1996 Berlin Film Festival he was awarded a Golden Bear for his complete works.
