Joseph Kasavubu



Kasavubu, Joseph (1917?–69), African politician, first president (1960–65) of the Republic of the Congo (now Zaïre). He ousted Premier Patrice Lumumba but was himself supplanted (1965) by Gen. Joseph Mobutu.
