Battle of Jutland



Jutland, Battle of, only major naval battle of World War I, fought between the British and German fleets off the coast of Jutland (Denmark) on May 31, 1916. Though greatly outnumbered the Germans performed masterfully and escaped in the fog. The British fleet under Admiral Jellicoe suffered heavy losses leading to controversy about Jellicoe's tactics.
