Hue



Hue (pop. 260,500), third largest city in Vietnam, located in central Vietnam, near the eastern coast. Founded in the 3rd century, Hue was capital of Vietnam during the rule of the Nguyen dynasty, beginning in the 16th century. The city was occupied by the French in 1883. It became a part of South Vietnam in 1954. Much of the city was destroyed during the Tet offensive in the Vietnam War, but it is under reconstruction.
