species gulls plumage

Gull, strong seabird forming the subfamily Larinae. The plumage is basically white with darker wings and back. Some species develop a dark hood in the breeding plumage. There are altogether some 40 species of gulls, and the group is widespread. Gulls are a very successful and adaptable group and many species have now become common inland as scavengers on refuse or on plowed land.
