Grasshopper

Grasshopper, plant-eating, winged insect of the order Orthoptera, with powerful hind legs for jumping and springing to flight. Divided into 2 families, long-horned (e.g., katydid) and short-horned (e.g., locust), grasshoppers range from 0.5–4 in (1–10 cm) in length. The males sing by rubbing their hind legs against folded wings.
