J(ean) Paul Getty



Getty, J(ean) Paul (1892–1976), U.S. business executive and one of the richest men in the world. He inherited his father's oil company, vastly expanded its wealth, and became an important art collector, founding and endowing the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, Calif. (1954). From the early 1950s Getty lived in England. At his death, he left the museum $750 million.
