Galilee

Galilee, in ancient Roman times, hilly region of northern Palestine between the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan River (now part of Israel). It was the homeland of Jesus, who was sometimes referred to as the Galilean, and a center for Jewish learning after the Roman destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
