Fort Sam Houston



Fort Sam Houston, fort in San Antonio, Tex., built in 1876. It was named after Samuel Houston, first president of the Republic of Texas. It covers 3,160 acres (1,280 hectares) inside the city limits and is the headquarters of the 5th U.S. Army. It also has one of the world's largest medical training centers, the Academy of Health Science.
