Euglena

Euglena, any of several microscopic, one-celled organisms found mainly in stagnant water. Euglenas show both plant and animal characteristics. Like plants, they can manufacture their own food and are capable of photosynthesis; like animals, they can move about freely, propelled by their whiplike flagella. They possess a red-pigmented “eyespot” that is sensitive to light.
