Erie Canal



Erie Canal, artificial U.S. waterway completed 1825, connecting Buffalo on Lake Erie with Albany on the Hudson River, thus providing a route to the Great Lakes from the Atlantic Ocean. It was replaced in 1918 by the New York State Barge Canal.
