Ephesus

Ephesus, ancient Greek city in Asia Minor, in what is now Turkey. The temple of Artemis, built in Ephesus in the 6th century B.C. and excavated by archaeologists in 1869, was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A major Greek seaport, Ephesus was later the Asian capital of the Roman Empire, before becoming a Christian center. It was destroyed in the early 15th century.
