Elba



Elba, Italian island in the Mediterranean, 6 mi (9.7 km) off the west coast of central Italy. At various times under the rule of Pisa, Spain, and Naples, it was the site of Napoleon I's exile, 1814–15. The island is about 20 mi (32 km) long and less than 10 mi (16 km) wide and is very mountainous. Industries include iron mining, marble quarrying, fishing, and agriculture.
