Saint Dominic



Dominic, Saint (11707–1221), Spanish-born founder of the Dominican order. Sent by Pope Innocent III in 1205 to Languedoc (southern France) to convert the Albigensian heretics, Dominic and his band of priests were successful, and in 1216 he was given papal support for the new order he had established. His feast day is Aug. 4.
