Dodder

Dodder, parasitic plant (genus Cuscuta), that bears no leaves and gains all its nourishment from the host plant. There are nearly 200 species around the world. As each dodder plant develops, it reaches out for a host plant into which it sends suckers that penetrate the living tissues. Eventually the host plant becomes smothered in straggling stems of the dodder.
