Dodecanese

Dodecanese, group of about 20 Greek islands in the southeastern Aegean Sea off Turkey. Except for Rhodes and Kos, the 12 main islands are largely rocky and infertile. In 1912 Italy seized the group from the Turks, but after World War II they were ceded to Greece.
