Damping-off

Damping-off, disease of new plants caused by fungi in the soil. There are 2 types: pre-emergence, causing seeds to sprout and rot in the soil, and post-emergence, in which newly developed seedlings suddenly die. Seeds can be treated with fungicides before planting, or can be planted in fungus-free soil.
