Paolo Soleri



Soleri, Paolo (1919– ), Italian-born U.S. architect. A visionary planner and once an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, Soleri published in Sketchbooks (1971) his designs for Mesa City, a solar-powered desert metropolis. He began work on Arcosanti, a scaled-down version of it near Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1970. His buildings include Domed Desert House (1951) near Cave Creek, Ariz., and the Solimene Ceramics factory in Vietri sul Mare, Italy, near Salerno.
