Solenodon



Solenodon (genus Solenodon), rare, nocturnal, insect-eating mammal of Cuba and Haiti. It looks like a long-nosed rat, measuring about 2 ft (61 cm) long and 2 lb (1 kg), with long claws, a stiff tail, and short, coarse hair. Its saliva is poisonous.
