Sole



Sole, any of several species (family Soleidae) of flatfishes found in temperate seas and fresh water. Soles are commonly brown with dark patches, have flattened bodies about 10–25 in (25–66 cm) long, weigh about 1 lb (0.5 kg), and have both eyes on the right side of the head. Sole is a valued food fish, particularly the European or Dover sole and the American hogchoker.
