Shannon River



Shannon River, chief river in Ireland and longest (240 mi/386 km) in the British Isles. It rises in northern Cavan county, Ulster, and flows south and west through several loughs (lakes) into the Atlantic Ocean. From Limerick westward, it is navigable by all but the largest vessels.
