Roger Sessions



Sessions, Roger (1896–1985), U.S. composer, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for music (1982). He was professor of music at the University of California, Berkeley (1945) and Princeton University (1935–45, 1953–65). Sessions's compositions include operas, symphonies, piano sonatas, and chorus music. He is best known for The Black Maskers (1923) and Concerto for Orchestra (1981). His written works include The Musical Experience of Composer, Performer and Listener (1950) and his collected essays, Roger Sessions on Music (1979).
