Sesshu



Sesshu (1419–1506), Japanese Buddhist monk and landscape artist. Combining Chinese ink-painting technique with Japanese aesthetics, Sesshu's style is characterized by strong composition, straightforward forms, and vigorous brushstrokes. He produced his greatest works, including screens, scrolls, and religious paintings, after 1469, following a period of study in China.
