Samothrace



Samothrace, mountainous Greek island in the northeastern Aegean Sea. About 70 sq mi (180 sq km) in area, Samothrace has hot springs, clay deposits, and one high mountain, the Fengári, near its center. Its many Hellenistic artifacts and ruins date back to the 4th century B.C. Industries today include sponge fishing and sulfur production.
