J(erome) D(avid) Salinger



Salinger, J(erome) D(avid) (1919– ), U.S. author. His only novel, The Catcher in the Rye (1951), became one of the most popular postwar books, and its adolescent hero, Holden Caulfield, was accepted as a spokesperson of his generation. Salinger's short stories include Nine Stories (1953) and Franny and Zooey (1961).
