Royal Gorge



Royal Gorge, canyon created by the Arkansas River in south-central Colorado, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas. It is about 10 mi (16 km) long, with steep granite walls rising more than 1,000 ft (305 m) above the river. The highway bridge over the gorge, with a main span of 880 ft (268 m), is the highest suspension bridge in the United States.
