Pipe

Pipe, hollow stem connected to a small bowl used for smoking tobacco. Tobacco is placed in the bowl and ignited, and its smoke is drawn into the mouth through the stem. Pipes have been used in many cultures for thousands of years. They are often named for the material used to create the bowl; a corncob pipe, for instance, has a bowl made of a corncob. Other kinds of pipes include meerschaum (a clay-like material), briarwood, and porcelain.
