Pipefish

Pipefish, eellike fish with tubular mouth of the family Syngnathidae. They live in tropical seas and estuaries, feeding on minute plankton. The U.S. species can change color to match their backgrounds and swim vertically so that they look like waving weeds. Like the related sea horses, the male carries the eggs and babies.
