Newbery Medal



Newbery Medal, award presented annually in the field of children's literature. Established in 1921, this award is named after John Newbery (1713–67), first publisher of children's books. It honors the author of the most distinguished children's book published in the preceding year. The Newbery Medal and the Caldecott Medal (for best children's book illustrator) are presented at the yearly American Library Association conference.
