Natchez



Natchez, Muskogean-speaking Native American tribe of southwestern Mississippi. Primarily an agricultural people, they worshipped the sun and maintained a rigid social caste system. Driven from their villages near today's Natchez, Miss., after 3 wars with French settlers (1716, 1723, 1729), they were assimilated by other tribes.
