My Lai



My Lai, hamlet in South Vietnam where nearly 350 Vietnamese civilians were massacred by U.S. soldiers in 1968. Subsequent revelations led to army and congressional investigations. Lt. William Calley, in immediate command during the incident, was convicted of killing 22 persons and imprisoned for 3 years. Two generals were censured for failing to conduct an adequate investigation.
