John Muir



Muir, John (1838–1914), Scottish-born U.S. naturalist and writer, an advocate of forest conservation. He described his walking journeys in the northwestern part of the United States and Alaska in many influential articles and books. Yosemite and Sequoia national parks and Muir Woods National Monument in California were established as a result of his efforts.
