Saint Anne

Anne, Saint, mother of the Virgin Mary and wife of St. Joachim. Though not mentioned in Scripture, she was venerated in Early Christian times. According to an apocryphal writing of St. James, long after St. Anne had despaired of bearing a child, an angel appeared to her and foretold the birth of Mary. Often represented in art in such scenes as the Birth of the Virgin, St. Anne is the patron saint of women in labor. Her feast day is July 26.
