Adjutant



Adjutant, either of 2 species of scavenger storks of India and southeast Asia. The adjutant has a naked pink neck and head, a white body, and gray wings, back, and tail. The greater adjutant (Leptoptilos dubius) stands about 5 ft (1.5 m) high and has a respiratory pouch hanging from the throat. The lesser adjutant (L. javanicus) measures about 4 ft (1.2 m).
