National Educational Association Of the United States , NEA), largest U.S. professional organization of educators. Goals are focused on classroom conditions, public school improvements, and increased employee benefits. NEA groups are in 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., and have U.S. teacher representation overseas. Established in 1857, the NEA was directed mostly by administrators until the mid-1960s, when teachers took the leadership.
